Our Team
We've produced demo reels for over 7,000 actors
Create Your Reel was conceived from an agent's request to get focused footage for all of her clients. Instead of back-and-forth dialogue, she believed that casting directors were only interested in a one-minute reel that focused on one thing: the actor.
From that request, Create Your Reel was born. CYR has pioneered the now popular format they coined the "Minilogue" – 20 to 30 seconds of footage that focuses on one person without turnarounds or establishing shots.
Create Your Reel is a full-time company with a professional staff who work in many aspects of the entertainment industry.

Common questions about actor demo reels
How long should an actor demo reel be?
For most actors, a demo reel should be 60 to 90 seconds. Casting directors make decisions quickly, so lead with your strongest material. Our Minilogue format focuses on 20–30 seconds of footage per scene, designed to showcase one actor without turnarounds or establishing shots. If you have multiple strong scenes, a two- or three-scene package gives you more range to show.
How much does demo reel editing cost?
At Create Your Reel, demo reel editing is $25 per scene. We charge per scene instead of hourly so you know the exact cost upfront. Full minilogue packages (writing, shooting, and editing) start at $497 for one scene. Two-person scenes start at $1,047. Check our rates section for full details.
Can I use TV or film footage in my demo reel?
Yes. If you have co-star, guest star, or recurring credits, that footage absolutely belongs in your reel. We rip from over a dozen streaming services including Max, Prime, and YouTube. Rental or purchase of streaming content may apply for aircheck services. If you've got the footage, we'll make it look great.
What if I don't have any footage yet?
That's exactly what we specialize in. Our custom Minilogue scenes are written, directed, shot, and edited specifically for your demo reel. You don't need existing footage — we create professional scenes from scratch that are tailored to your type and casting goals. Over 7,000 actors have started here.
What is a Minilogue?
A Minilogue is a demo reel format pioneered by Create Your Reel — 20 to 30 seconds of focused footage featuring one actor, without turnarounds or establishing shots. It's designed to grab a casting director's attention immediately and is now one of the most popular demo reel formats in the industry. Watch our samples to see it in action.

Demo Reel Scene Production Tips
After producing demo reels for over 7,000 actors across fifteen-plus years, we've learned exactly what makes scenes work for casting. Below are the production principles we follow at Create Your Reel to deliver footage that actually helps actors book roles.
Keep Every Scene Actor-Centered
A demo reel scene exists to prove one thing: you can play the role. Every production decision, from framing to script structure, should serve that goal. Avoid scenes that split focus between multiple characters or spend time on plot setup. Casting directors want to see you, not a short film.
Aim for 20 to 40 Seconds Per Scene
Tight scenes hit harder. A 20 to 40 second scene forces you to make an immediate impression, which is exactly what happens in a real audition. If your scene needs more than 40 seconds, it probably has too much exposition. Cut to the moment that matters.
Shoot for Casting Clarity, Not Festival Awards
Your demo reel is a business tool, not a portfolio piece. Use clean, well-lit coverage that shows your face and performance clearly. Avoid stylistic choices like extreme handheld, heavy color grading, or unusual aspect ratios that distract from your acting. Casting directors watch reels on small screens in between meetings. Make it easy for them to see you.
Avoid Overproduction
Elaborate sets, large casts, and complex blocking can make a scene look impressive but actually work against you. The more production elements in frame, the less attention goes to your performance. A simple, well-shot scene in a clean location will always outperform an overproduced one that buries the actor.
Prioritize Clean Audio
Bad sound kills credibility faster than anything else. Use proper lavalier or boom microphones and record in a controlled environment. Background noise, echo, and uneven levels make your reel feel amateur regardless of how good the image looks. At Create Your Reel, every scene is recorded with professional audio and mixed in post.
Replace Weak Footage With Custom Scenes
If your current reel includes poorly shot student films, outdated footage, or scenes where you're a background player, it's time to swap those out. A single well-produced Minilogue scene will outperform five mediocre clips. Check our rates for packages starting at $497.
